These are some of my views on this digital marketing malarkey ... there's more on: AlanCharlesworth.com

Over the years – as you can see – I’ve added to this blog only sporadically. I decided to leave all the old posts ‘live’ as I think they can still be useful in helping folk understand digital marketing.

Oh ... and I write all of these entries myself. There's no AI used on this blog.

Enjoy 😊

my thoughts on google ai search

Pre-AI, Google used to read your website and if its content matched a search, Google put a link to your site on the SERP.

Win, win all round.

Now, Google AI (Gemini) reads your site, and if its content matches a search query, Gemini rewrites that content and presents it on the search page as the answer to the search question.

Sometimes, it might include a link to your site – but why would the searcher click on it when they already have the answer to their question?

So, you have bot-blockers added to your site’s code – so Google cannot access your content – and you seek other ways to drive traffic to your site.

Use of Google search drops because search results lose quality.

Google lose income because they sell loads of ads on search, but hardly any on Gemini.

Lose, lose all round.
